Chameleon
Author: Kelly Oram
Genre: YA/Fantasy
Release Date: June 25th, 2013
Description:
For small-town rebel Dani Webber magic and monsters are no more real than the Easter Bunny… until the day she accidentally stops time. Dani quickly discovers that not only do supernaturals exist, but she herself is one of them. This is great news for her life-long best friend Russ, who can finally come clean about his own supernatural status and his undying love for her. Before the two can start to enjoy the long overdue relationship, Dani is taken by a powerful council of supernaturals who believe she is the Chosen One destined to save them from extinction.
As if being kidnapped and expected to save the world isn’t bad enough, an ancient prophecy warns of the Chosen One’s dark nature: “Only the truest love will keep her an agent for good.” The council believes they know who this “true love” is and, unfortunately, that person isn’t Russ. The mysterious, powerful and devastatingly handsome Seer is the last person Dani wants in her life, but when she starts having visions of a horrific future, she has no one else to turn to for help.
Soon Dani finds herself torn between two very different boys with two very different opinions of whom she can trust. With the visions getting worse and time running out, Dani is forced to put aside her feelings and work with both the Seer and Russ before an ancient evil is unleashed upon the earth.

Interview:
1. Can you share with us your favorite non-spoiler quote or scene from Chameleon?
That’s hard. I feel like there’s so much going on in this book that every scene is a spoiler of some sort, so here’s one of my favorite quotes…
“Just like conjuring up a spell, or harnessing wolf instincts, wielding demonic power came as naturally to me as committing misdemeanors.” ~Dani
2. If your book was to be made into a movie, who do you see playing main characters?
Grr. I never know the answer to this question. Okay, let’s see…
Dani = Britt Robertson
Russ = Jeremy Sumpter
Gabriel = Tyler Posey
Alex = Timothy Olyphant
The Councilor = James Purefoy
Duncan = Jensen Ackles
3. If you could leave this world for your “book world,” would you?
If I could bring my family with me, sure I would. I think it would be exciting. (As long as no vampire or werewolf ate me. But it’d be cool to know people with superpowers.
4. What was the hardest thing about writing Chameleon?
Just getting used to writing fantasy. (I wrote several practice stories that will never leave my hard drive because they suck.) Also, I dealt with visions of the future. Keeping those straight and having the story catch up to them the right way was a challenge.
7. What inspired you to write Chameleon?
There wasn’t any specific inspiration. I just wanted to try my hand at a fantasy series, so I sat down with my sister and brainstormed different ideas.
6. How many books do you have planned for this series?
There are 4 books in the series, and possibly a novella or two. I’ll have to see on those, but definitely the 4 at the least.
7. Is there anything you can tell us about the next book in this series?
Book 2 is called Ungifted. It actually begins before the end of Chameleon. It’s not a companion novel, it’s definitely a sequel, but the story will take you to a new city, with new people and a new set of problems. Some of the characters from book one will be in it and some wont. (But I’m not saying which ones!) There is a conflict in the story with two different sides. In Chameleon we meet the council. (The supernatural government). In book two we will meet the key players in the resistance that opposes the council. Then in books three and four, the two sides will crash together and chaos will ensue!
8.And finally, what kind of advice would you give to someone who wants to start writing?
Just do it! The hardest part of writing is actually getting it done—believing that you can write an entire book and then actually making it happen. Even if you think your story sucks, just push through it to the end. The first novel is the hardest one to finish. But the more you write, the less intimidating it becomes. Also, like with any skill, practice makes perfect.
