Summary:

When fifteen-year-old Clary Fray heads out to the Pandemonium Club in New York City, she hardly expects to witness a murder -- much less a murder committed by three teenagers covered with strange tattoos and brandishing bizarre weapons. Then the body disappears into thin air. It's hard to call the police when the murderers are invisible to everyone else and when there is nothing -- not even a smear of blood -- to show that a boy has died. Or was he a boy?

This is Clary's first meeting with the Shadowhunters, warriors dedicated to ridding the earth of demons. It's also her first encounter with Jace, a Shadowhunter who looks a little like an angel and acts a lot like a jerk. Within twenty-four hours Clary is pulled into Jace's world with a vengeance, when her mother disappears and Clary herself is attacked by a demon. But why would demons be interested in ordinary mundanes like Clary and her mother? And how did Clary suddenly get the Sight? The Shadowhunters would like to know. . . .

Review:

I liked City of Bones. It definitively hit me with some surprises at the end. To say the truth, sometimes this book even made me mad, I think people who read it, without knowing what is going to happen in the next book, know what I am talking about.  In this first book I was kind of annoyed with some things characters said and did, but it made sense later on. I fell in love with Jace! I loved his sense of humor and  just how cocky he was! Without his character the book definitely would have lost all the spice;D Definitely one of my favorite characters! And did I mention how H-O-T he supposedly is?!  I can't see how Clary would of not fell in love with him.

“Have you fallen in love with the wrong person yet?'
Jace said, "Unfortunately, Lady of the Haven, my one true love remains myself."
..."At least," she said, "you don't have to worry about rejection, Jace Wayland."

"Not necessarily. I turn myself down occasionally, just to keep it interesting.”

I didn't know what to feel about Alec and Isabelle who are brother and sister and Jace's family. For me Isabelle was Hot and Cold, and Alec was a little bit of a mystery. I really liked the romance between Jace and Clary. Especially the birthday scene(: Simon is another character I didn't know how to feel about. He was Clary's best friend, and of course in love with her, secretly, not really. I do liked the arguments between Simon and Jace, their witty remarks made me giggle!

“Do you remember back at the hotel when you promised that if we lived, you’d get dressed up in a nurse’s outfit and give me a sponge bath?" asked Jace.
"It was Simon who promised you the sponge bath."
"As soon as I’m back on my feet, handsome," said Simon.
"I knew we should have left you a rat.”

Valentine, well I can't really say anything about him, I don't want to spoil it(;

  5. Jace is a great character. It has been a long time since I read this first in the series, but I still remember him. Moreso than any other characters!

  6. Your reviews give good coverage without ruining the suspense or giving too much away. I enjoy reading them.

  7. Nice review for this book. The author did a great job breaking into her own original work here.

  8. I've been torn on whether or not I should read this, especially with the movie coming out soon. I've heard a lot about the supposed love triangle, so I'm still on the fence with this one. Thanks for the review.

  9. I love The Mortal Instruments series! But for me, The Infernal Devices is the best, what can compare with Victorian London and steampunk! :) I hope the movie City of Bones will be as good as the book. :)

  14. I think this quote from the book is hilarious:

“Do you remember back at the hotel when you promised that if we lived, you’d get dressed up in a nurse’s outfit and give me a sponge bath?" asked Jace.
"It was Simon who promised you the sponge bath."
"As soon as I’m back on my feet, handsome," said Simon.
"I knew we should have left you a rat.”

I am definitely purchasing this book.
